Queen Charlotte's Ball
Wednesday 16th Sept 09, 7pm to Midnight at Durbar Court, Whitehall.
Queen Charlotte’s Ball was founded two hundred years ago by Queen Charlotte with the help of debutantes of the time to raise funds for mothers and babies through the hospital that later became known as Queen Charlotte’s Hospital.
Today, the Ball still benefits the care of mothers and babies through the Queen Charlotte’s Appeal, which funds Professor Lord Winston’s world-renowned Research Centre for Family Health. Helping to prevent premature birth, miscarriage and infertility, Professor Lord Winston’s work is the beneficiary of the fabulous Queen Charlotte’s Ball, which promises to be the premier social event of the London Season 2009.
Durbar Court, the ’Jewel of Whitehall’, will be the glittering venue and will be at our disposal for the evening. Guests will be introduced to Lord Winston and the royal guests of honour, wander around the magnificent rooms and enjoy Durbar Court for the evening. The Ball will be featured in Hello! magazine and the national press, and will be the culmination of The London Season TV documentary directed by multi award winning director Jane Treays, due for broadcast in November.
One of the famous traditions of the Queen Charlotte’s ball was the procession of the debutantes dressed in white and presented to royalty in front of an eight foot high cake.
This year’s revival will include this ceremony with a stunning cake made by the Head Chef Patissier of the Savoy Hotel. The international debutantes will process in Pronovias white gowns ,wearing diamonds and pearls by Mikimoto and will be presented to the very glamorous HH Princess Olga Romanov , HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia, and the very dashing HE Don Alfonso di Borbon y Franco, Duke of Anjou & Cadiz.
The evening will consist of a champagne and canapé reception followed by a gourmet dinner with wine in the incredible Durbar Court. Dancing to a jazz band will follow.
All proceeds go to Queen Charlotte’s Appeal which funds research into premature babies, miscarriage and infertility. Click here to find out more.
